RÉCITAL D’ORGUE
About
Based in the United States, Nicolas Kilhoffer is organist at Brick Church in Manhattan and is studying for a Master’s degree in organ performance at Yale University. On his return to France, the young Alsatian musician will be stopping off in Toulouse with a programme specially designed for the organ at Les Minimes.
This recital will feature works by Scheidemann, Cornet, Cabanilles, Froberger, Sweelinck, Correa de Arauxo, Tunder and Buxtehude. The virtuosic passages of the toccatas will be counterbalanced by Sweelinck’s variations and the dialogue between the two solo voices in Correa’s tiento. The contrasts within the programme will showcase the various facets of this instrument with its Iberian character.
Improvisation, at the heart of Nicolas Kilhoffer’s musical practice, will bring the evening to a close: the audience will be invited to suggest a theme, which he will then use to compose a piece on the spot at the organ. An opportunity to witness the creation of a new work, having just heard those of the Baroque masters.
Nicolas Kilhoffer has performed in France, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Spain, the United States, Greece, Italy, Kenya, Portugal and the United Kingdom. He has also taught improvisation at the University of Victoria in Canada.
Admission is free, and a collection will be taken from members of the audience wishing to support the charitable work of the Order of Saint Lazarus.
