About

To mark the bicentenary of the invention of photography, the Château d’Eau, the Paul Dupuy Museum and the Georges-Labit Museum are joining forces to take you on a journey through 200 years of exhibitions.

By bringing together their three collections, these museums in Toulouse highlight three aspects of photography.

- Photography as a medium
Since its invention, photography has been defined as a medium of representation and expression. The visual vocabulary it establishes is illustrated by a selection of photographs.

- Photography as images: between art and documentation
It is regarded as an art form in its own right and is compared to painting, drawing or sculpture. By documenting fragments of the world, it enables the history of photography – from its invention to the present day – to be archived.

- Photography as told through the exhibitions and collection at the Château d’Eau
Discover the role of this exhibition and collection venue and its significance in showcasing these photographs.
