About
Even today, books as objects appeal to a veritable blend of the senses, shared between sight, touch, smell and hearing. This was all the more true in the Middle Ages, when manuscripts were both witnesses to history and works in their own right, created using highly precise techniques. The colours of the images and illuminations, the shape of the letters, the texture of the paper, the smell of the leather and the pages, the rustle of the leaves - it's a whole art form whose essence can be found in its very conception. These are just some of the topics covered in this animation (included with admission to the monument), which will shed light on the tools, trades and issues involved in these medieval symbols of scholarship.
