When you first come to Domaine de Candie, you don't expect to discover a 13th-century brick fortress. An old country home belonging to the former capitouls, it now houses the estate's winery, lined with age-old tuns and oak barrels.

It was in 1975 that the city of Toulouse transformed this 250-hectare estate into a municipal farm. The principle today? To promote biodiversity in the city and encourage healthy, local food for young and old alike. In recent years, the estate has become more open to the public, with a harvest festival, a "guinguette" in the summer months, schoolchildren and professionals taking part in events focusing on "eating well" and sustainable agriculture, and... guided tours!
