About

This tour concentrates on the pink city: the Place du Capitole, the Jacobins convent, the courtyards of the Assézat and Bernuy town houses, and of course a visit to the Garonne.

When you arrive in a city for the first time, you want to know what you absolutely mustn’t miss, whilst dreaming of the privilege of seeing some exclusive spots. If you agree, this tour is for you!

First, at the Place du Capitole, the guide will give you a taste of antiquity before showcasing the opulence of the 18th-century judicial and commercial city, evident in the impressive pink and white façade!
Further on, you’ll enter the Church of the Jacobins, a noble brick edifice, the Gothic soul of the 13th and 14th centuries, where memories of the Cathar heresy and the history of one of France’s oldest universities linger.

In just a few strides, you find yourself stepping into the exceptional 16th-century mansions of Messrs Bernuy and d’Assézat, the magnificent witnesses to a city rising from the ashes of the great fire of 1463 thanks to the magic formula of blue pastel dye.

This tour also takes you to the Garonne, the city’s river backbone, both the strength and weakness of the Pink City. There, you may hear the echoes of the old boatmen hoisting barrels onto the now-vanished barges, whilst today’s strollers bask in the sun on the riverbanks.

Finally, on your way back to the Capitole, your guide—a mischievous companion—will lead you through the charming alleyways of the merchant quarter, which open out from crossroads into little squares nestled between half-timbered houses and Baroque gateways.

Intrigued? Experience Toulouse both as a visitor from the past AND a local, naturally focusing on the essentials!

Good to know:
- Between 15 June and 15 September, during orange and red alert weather warnings and when the temperature is 35°C or higher, adjustments to the route are made and the tour is shortened to 1½ hours. In the event of a red heatwave alert, tours are cancelled and refunded.

TOULOUSE : L’ESSENTIEL

Eh bien non, la ville n’était pas vraiment rose puisque pendant plus de 170 ans, les murs étaient recouverts d’un enduit blanc dit « à la pierre » pour protéger, mais aussi cacher la brique et éclairer l’espace urbain !
