THE MUSEE DES AUGUSTINS

The Musée des Augustins, Toulouse’s Museum of Fine Arts, is housed in a former medieval convent built in the 14th century, in the heart of the historic centre. This venue, steeped in history, creates a dialogue between architectural heritage and masterpieces.

Listed as a Historic Monument, the former Augustinian monastery provides an exceptional setting (Gothic cloister, vaulted rooms, monumental staircase, grand salons, etc.) in which to discover a rich collection of paintings and sculptures spanning from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.
Great names from the history of art (Perugino, Rubens, Delacroix, Ingres and Rodin…) are displayed alongside major figures from the Toulouse art scene, spanning historical painting to Orientalism, notably including the fascinating canvases of Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant and Édouard Debat-Ponsan.

The exhibition route showcases paintings and sculptures in an immersive setting that invites visitors to rediscover the works from a fresh perspective.

Designed for visitors of all ages, the museum now aims to be more accessible, thanks to a wide range of educational initiatives.

To extend the visitor experience, the museum’s shop, bookshop and café – nestled beneath superb brick vaults – offers a refined selection of books and items inspired by the collections, as well as a gourmet break showcasing local produce.
The museum’s gradual reopening is proceeding in line with the ongoing works: parts of the cloister are undergoing restoration until spring 2027, whilst the church and the Gothic areas will be added to the visitor route throughout 2026.
