Through its brutalist architecture, crypts, tunnel and external symbols, the visitor route confronts visitors with the violence of war whilst opening up a path towards hope and freedom. The monument serves both as a tribute to the suffering of the resistance fighters and a celebration of their victorious struggle — a message that remains as relevant as ever, intended to be passed on to future generations.
Its location is, moreover, no coincidence: it is situated in Le Busca, close to sites in the town marked by the Second World War:
- the villa at 2 Rue Maignac, the Gestapo headquarters between 1942 and 1944, where members of the Resistance were tortured and executed,
- the former Saint-Michel prison, where many opponents were imprisoned, tortured or shot.
