PIERRE-ELIE DE PIBRAC « DESMEMORIA »

With Desmemoria, Pierre-Elie de Pibrac delves deep into the social and intimate history of Cuba, shaped for centuries by the sugar industry. Between 2016 and 2017, the photographer spent eight months on the island, meeting the azucareros, sugar workers who have been hit by economic decline and the mass closure of Cuban sugar factories.

Through portraits, scenes of life and more allegorical images, he documents the human traces of a disappearing world. Produced mainly with a view camera, his works establish a sensitive dialogue with his subjects, revealing lives marked by memory, expectation and precariousness.

A second exhibition of this photographer's work is on show at the Chateau d'Eau.
