About

When it was founded in the 1st century, the town of Tolosa had one of its main entrances here, to the south, close to the Garonne. During the feudal period and with the emergence of the County of Toulouse, the gate in the ramparts was rebuilt to withstand invasions. It was transformed into an imposing castle, which would eventually disappear during the Renaissance.

It was indeed during this period that the Kingdom of France – having annexed the County two centuries earlier – replaced the castle with sumptuous houses better suited to the administration of royal government and justice.

This exclusive tour allows you to explore the ruins of one of the city’s greatest archaeological discoveries. Archaeologists spent nearly ten years uncovering 600 m² of the crypt. You will then explore the Grand Chamber, the oldest courtroom (1490), where republican justice is still administered today.

Guided tour organised by the Palais de Justice, in partnership with the Toulouse Tourist Office as part of the European Heritage Days. Booking essential; places are limited.
