OEDIPE / ANTIGONE

Oedipus, King of Thebes, discovers that he is the perpetrator of the worst crimes and responsible for the misfortunes of his people. The tragedy tells of the curse on his lineage – one that drives fathers to kill their children – but also of the downfall of a hero who believed he could resolve everything through his own intelligence. His daughter Antigone, who defends the ‘unwritten laws’ against the political order, will be the ultimate victim of this cycle of violence. By presenting these three plays in succession, Stéphane Braunschweig brings Sophocles’ questions to bear on our own times.
