About
Maria Bertel is a Danish trombonist, improviser and composer. Her work is inspired by drone and noise music. By amplifying the trombone, she lets us hear sounds that usually escape our ears.
Monophonic is a study of music played in 'one voice'. The compositions are long, slow-building layers of sound. The drone and squeak of the trombone create shifting harmonics, strange clicks and clatters, cyclical adjustments of timbre, accompanied by sudden breaths.
