Off to the East! Chef Lio Kuokman, who was born in Macau and trained in Hong Kong before joining some of the most prestigious establishments in the United States, presents a colourful programme stretching from Istanbul to Baghdad.
To open the programme, Fazil Say’s score plunges us into the heart of the Grand Bazaar with a virtuoso rhapsody, which even features the lively discussions surrounding a carpet sale! Nelson Goerner brings all his panache to *Burlesque*, an early work by Richard Strauss whose mischievous spirit foreshadows that of *Till Eulenspiegel*. With *Scheherazade*, the great Russian orchestrator Rimsky-Korsakov whispers tales into our ears with the same magic as the famous storyteller. A musical prodigy whose enchantment has lasted for far more than a thousand and one nights.
