A distillation of a life in seven scenes and roughly twice as many formative anecdotes, brought together to explore the dizzying nature of a gender and all the imperatives it entails. The author has got a bit carried away with that grand statement; what follows will be simpler. I promise. From childhood to adulthood, from oppression to emancipation, from abusive virility to a unique form of masculinity. *Le Premier Sexe* is a journey. And a sharing of experiences.
