Edward Teach, the famous pirate of the Caribbean better known as Blackbeard, is a figure of legendary hair who seems to be that of evil itself, so much so is his name attached to so many crimes.
Yet a thick shadow seems to stretch endlessly at the feet of the man who was, after all, only a man of his time. Who was Edward Teach really? What dreams did he chase, what did he run away from?
We could come across many stories about him, and come up with hypotheses, cross-checking and sorting, in the hope of finally finding out for sure. But what object, better than his Diary, could give us the voice of Edward Teach, known as Blackbeard, the pirate about whom so much has been written and said - but who, it seems, has never really been listened to?
