About

To mark the historic flooding of the Garonne, the La Grave chapel has invited Stéphane Thidet to create a site-specific installation. The artist, known for his works that draw on the raw, natural materiality of water, is bringing a poetic vision to bear on the story of the disaster.

"La Goutte d'eau" invites you to take part in an autonomous experience based on rhythm and listening. Every 30 seconds, a drop of water falls almost 50 metres into a vast, dark basin. The sound, amplified by the natural reverberation of the space, fills the nave before slowly fading away. With no set itinerary, visitors can choose their own length of visit, between waiting, contemplation and sensory immersion in a minimalist work on a monumental scale.
