INOUBLIABLE EDITH PIAF

About
Small in stature, certainly, but with such a powerful voice and such a distinctive tone that she could not fail to captivate her audience. Piaf’s era was that of street singing, followed by gigs in cabarets for those who were lucky enough to secure them. And you certainly needed luck when, like Edith Gassion, you were born into poverty, with parents whom we shall describe here as neglectful to avoid the long litany of their acts of abuse.
With success came the chance for Piaf to take control of her own destiny. Yet she remained a ‘wounded soul’ throughout her life, leading a dissolute existence that would lead to her untimely death at the age of 47. We are left with her unforgettable songs, which form part of our cultural heritage.
In our collective unconscious, these popular songs are inextricably linked to the accordion, that ‘piano with straps’ so often used by street singers, and it was only natural for us to include this instrument in our tribute to Piaf.
This ‘child of the stage’ was a complete artist, and our friends from the VM Ballet were keen to join us. A truly comprehensive show, then, during which you can immerse yourselves in the world of this extraordinary artist.
