HORIZONS LATINO-AMÉRICAINS

With Astor Piazzolla, the tango shed its image as a ballroom dance to become a form of music that is energetic, free and deeply expressive. The string quartets of Heitor Villa-Lobos and Alberto Ginastera carry this momentum forward in a rich and varied style, blending traditional rhythms, a quest for original timbres and rhythmic power. Meanwhile, the arrangements of Arturo Márquez’s Danzón No. 2 and Aldemaro Romero’s Fuga con pajarillo open up the string quartet’s repertoire to other sonic realms: those of dance, improvisation and popular celebration. This evening therefore promises to be an invitation to journey into the heart of music that is as refined as it is vibrant, nourished by dance and South American cultural roots.
