From this encounter, the artist creates an offbeat performance, as well as an in-depth reflection, on her relationship with this art form, which has long been a source of inspiration for her work. Drawing on the figure of the diva, her iconic roles and the imagery they evoke, she playfully explores different physical states and modes of performance, particularly through what she calls the ‘facial dances’ of opera singers. How does one move from a beautiful singing face to a monstrous one? This is an exploration she undertakes at the crossroads of theatre, dance and operatic singing – a discipline in which she has recently trained – in order to better dissect the sacred trappings of opera.
