About

Following on from *Polyester* and *DUET*, the TORO TORO theatre company is embarking on a new project inspired by *pastorales* – amateur performances held in the Pyrenees twice a summer, which blend theatre with traditional songs and dances.

“It’s a play about the family we have and the one we choose to have. ”

Nans Laborde-Jourdàa grew up in the heart of Béarn, a place where people don’t really open up to one another. In his memories, the traditions of his youth intertwine with a longing for freedom that he projects towards Spain, just a stone’s throw from home. An imagination that finds an echo in the flamboyance of Almodóvar’s cinema, from which the artist draws inspiration for his own writing. Blending theatre, song, dance and performance, the play follows the final days of a family in a flat in a small town in the Pyrenees: a mother and housekeeper who has spent her life putting herself last, her two children who have just come of age, the grandmother and the neighbour across the landing, free to live her life as she sees fit. Performed by actors from all walks of life, *A Pyrenean Family* tenderly portrays those whose existence often remains invisible to the rest of the world.
