The dance between Eros and Thanatos is timeless: a constant tension between love and decline, creation and destruction, peace and war. In a world destabilised by geopolitical tensions and humanitarian crises, this primal dance unfolds before our very eyes.
How can we navigate this reality? Are we capable of altering its course?
In *Monday*, the Dutch choreographer Arno Schuitemaker carries out a radical reversal. The hypnotic performance unfolds in reverse, drawing the audience into an experience where the footprint appears before the step. Reversing the order of events can profoundly transform the way we understand them. As the four dancers perform their movements in reverse, they reconstruct the set. This reconstruction thus takes on multiple meanings.
*Monday* is a physical metaphor for a ‘forward-looking memory’, an experience that makes tangible the way in which what has not yet happened weighs upon the present. What choices do we make in these seemingly ordinary moments when everything could change in an instant?
