About
Dukas’s overture *Polyeucte*, premiered two centuries after Corneille’s play, raises the curtain on a drama in which the hero knowingly subjects himself to martyrdom. More pagan in nature, the earthy rhythms of *The Rite of Spring* evoke the rebirth of nature, culminating in the sacrificial dance of the Chosen One. The Cello Concerto by Esa-Pekka Salonen, a compatriot of Tarmo Peltokoski – best known as a conductor – can also evoke the blossoming of spring through its exuberance. Jan Vogler, a musician with a thirst for all repertoires, comes into his own in this demanding work, which requires total commitment from its performer.
