About

An exceptional contralto performing Handel’s finest arias.

Baroque music was forgotten for nearly two centuries before performers took an interest in it once again after the Second World War. One exception: Handel! His music has been performed continuously ever since. Born in Saxony, Handel became an Englishman by the grace of His Majesty King George I. Since Purcell’s death, there had been no major composer in England. Pragmatic as ever, the English embraced this composer as one of their own, even though his music was more a synthesis of Italian and German styles than a continuation of an English style – one which, incidentally, is difficult to define. For Italy and Germany dominated the Baroque musical scene culturally.

We invite you to savour some of Handel’s gems with the Quebec-born Rose Naggar-Tremblay. This programme has been recorded on an album that has attracted attention: Top Mezzo, January 2026 – “A rich voice, taste, fine technique – she has it all, and the album is a real success.” Pablo Galonce.
