When you first visit the Domaine de Candie, you wouldn’t expect to find a 13th-century brick fortified castle. Once the country home of former capitouls, it now houses the estate’s wine cellar, where traditional casks and oak barrels stand in rows.

It was in 1975 that the city of Toulouse transformed this 250-hectare estate into a municipal agricultural estate. The aim today? To promote biodiversity in the city and encourage local, healthy food for young and old alike. In recent years, the estate has become more open to the public: a grape harvest festival, an open-air café in the summer months, welcoming school groups and professionals for events centred on “eating well” and sustainable agriculture, and… guided tours!
