PIERRE-ELIE DE PIBRAC « HAKANAI SONZAI »

For eight months, the photographer went out to meet people living on the fringes of society: hikikomori, Fukushima survivors, yakuzas and the 'evaporated', those who have voluntarily disappeared. Shot with a view camera, his portraits delicately capture the frailties, silences and melancholy of those seeking their place in a society marked by collective pressure and a sense of impermanence.

Somewhere between documentary and visual poetry, Hakanai Sonzai explores the ephemeral beauty of the human condition and plunges you into the heart of the Japanese concept of mono no aware, that profound sensitivity to the fragility of the world.
