DE FERME EN FERME 2026 : 29 – DOMAINE DE CANDIE

The farm grows organic arable crops (cereals and pulses) on 250 hectares spread over five geographical sectors (Sesquières, Paleficat, Pech David, etc.) and 12 hectares of vines at the farm's headquarters. Most of the grapes are pressed and made into wine, which is used internally at the town hall and sold in Toulouse. Some of the arable crops are sold through local short supply chains. A large part of the estate's agricultural production is sold to the Town Hall's central kitchen (wheat for baguettes and coquillettes, dried vegetables, wine for senior citizens, etc.) to be used in the preparation of meals for nursery and elementary schools, as well as for senior citizens' meals.

The Domaine's headquarters are located in the south-west of the town and include a number of old buildings: a 13th-century château, where the wine is made, a former 18th-century manor house, which recently became the Maison du Bien Manger, its rose garden, an aviary, and more. The estate is also home to an educational apiary and an open-air café during the summer season.

Owned by the town since 1975, the estate is gradually being opened up to a wider public. The town council wants the Domaine de Candie to remain a farm, and therefore a working tool, for the benefit of the people of the Toulouse region. In addition to the annual events that have been organised for several years now, such as the grape harvest festival in September, the estate is increasingly welcoming schoolchildren, students and businesses for events linked to the themes of agriculture and food.

To achieve all this, a team of 11 people work hard every day to keep an atypical farm alive, subject to the constraints of working the land and the constraints of public service.
