The Saint-Etienne cathedral

Construction of this fascinating cathedral spanned five different centuries (from the 13th to the 17th) during which architectural taste changed considerably. The result is a rather disconcerting mishmash of styles. We enter by the raymondine naive, built in a southern gothic style with a large single naive. The second section consists of a vast choir in the northern French gothic style, rivalling the finest cathedrals.
The building features interesting decorative elements: stained-glass, tapestries, paintings, a large rose window, a splendid organ suspended at 17m and seventeen chapels.
