Walks and exploring

It is very often sunny here. Take your pleasure where you find it – chatting on the terrace of a café, stumbling upon the charm of a ‘place’ or the cool freshness of a fountain, walking around the bandstand of the Grand Rond, or across the flowering walkways that interconnect it with the Jardin Royal or the Jardin des Plantes. You can even play Madame Butterfly on the bridge of the Jardin Japonais Compans-Caffarelli.

And don’t miss the serenity to be found on the quays of the Garonne and the banks of the Canal du Midi (listed as a “World Heritage” site). On foot, by bicycle, or by boat, you’ll be charmed by the mixed blue and pink reflections painted along the surface of the water by sky and brick walls.

The Toulouse violet

This delicate, unobtrusive flower that symbolises the “ville rose” is thought to have arrived in Toulouse in the 19th Century, brought back by French soldiers from the Napoleonic wars. It rapidly made the fortunes of horticulturalists, florists, perfumers and confectioners.
